Community Outreach

Veterinary Students:
Each year Sugar Hill Animal Hospital hosts senior veterinary students during the externship portion of their education. These future doctors shadow our veterinarians to gain clinical experience in medicine and surgery.
Technician Students:
We are a Teaching Site Clinic for the Gwinnett Veterinary Technician Program and often have students perform their clinical rotations with us. They are mentored by our licensed technicians (RVT’s) and assistants as they gain technical skills and experience.
School Visits/Tours:
We love reaching out to the children in our community! We offer tours of our facility for school groups where students can see out staff at work. There is also a question and answer period with a doctor following the tour. Our doctors also frequently visit classrooms for Career Day Programs and speak to all ages of students and children about the profession we love!
Rescue Groups:
Sugar Hill Animal Hospital works closely with different rescue groups to help place abandoned or rescued animals. We provide veterinary care for Golden Retriever Rescue of Atlanta, Bouvier Rescue, Lab Friends of the South, and other volunteer rescue organizations. Our doctors help get these lucky pets back into the best shape possible and assist them into their new families. When looking for a new pet, please check with these wonderful rescue groups.

Explorer Program:
This mentoring program, sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, allows boys and girls to shadow a veterinarian after school. If you know a high school student who is interested in veterinary medicine, please contact our clinic. Also, if you see one of our students in maroon scrubs, you may ask them what they are learning – they’ll be glad to tell you!

X-Ray Seminars:
Sugar Hill Animal Hospital is a regional site clinic for Fovea Digital Radiography. Our educational seminars teach veterinarians about the new technology of digital x-ray.
Pet First Aid Station:
Our veterinarians volunteer for the Sugar Hill Fall Festival and other area events to take care of injured pets and educate owners about proper pet care.
Pet Adoptions:
Last year, your Sugar Hill Animal Hospital staff was able to find homes for over 75 stray kittens. Also, a number of puppies/dogs were rescued as well. Some of these animals were sick, some healthy. We treated, dewormed, vaccinated, and adopted them to suitable homes. Please call us if you are looking to adopt a new kitten or cat.
Merial Pharmaceuticals:
Merial, the largest veterinary pharmacuetical company in the world, sends employees to Sugar Hill Animal Hospital as part of their practical training. These Merial employees experience the workings of our busy full service animal hospital.
Spay/Neuter License Plate Program:
Dr. Hamryka helped develop this program that discounts spays and neuters for any Georgia resident owned pet. Sugar Hill Animal Hospital was proud to be chosen to perform the first sterilization procedure for this State of Georgia Department of Agriculture program.
